FCA Executive Director elected to ACT Alliance Governing Board

Tomi Järvinen, FCA Executive Director, was elected to the Governing Board of the ACT Alliance during its General Assembly in Indonesia.

FCA IS A FOUNDING MEMBER of ACT Alliance –  a global faith-based coalition of 150 members operating in more than 120 countries. ACT works to support local communities by engaging in humanitarian response, gender and climate justice, migration and displacement, and peace and security.

The General Assembly meets only every six years, with the last taking place in 2018 in Uppsala, Sweden. This year’s theme was ‘Hope in Action – Together for Justice.’

A key piece of work at each General Assembly of the ACT Alliance is to elect a new Governing Board, its officers (Moderator, Vice-Moderator, and Treasurer) and a new Membership and Nominations Committee.

Of his election to the Governing Board, Tomi says:

“It’s a great privilege to be chosen as a member of the governing body of one of the biggest faith and rights based actors globally. At a time where there is dissonance, discord, hatred and wars, we bring a voice of hope, peace and respect for all human beings and human rights, and I’m really motivated to be a part of this alliance.”

Nominations to the Governing Board are vetted by the regions, and carefully designed to balance gender, region, experience, skillset, and other considerations.

ACT Alliance was established on 1 January 2010, with its members employing more than 30,000 staff and volunteers and mobilising approximately more than USD 2 billion each year.
