Finn Church Aid starts change negotiations
The change negotiations concern Finn Church Aid’s office in Helsinki. The estimated staff reduction is a maximum of nine full-time equivalent.
IN ORDER TO ADDRESS its structural financial deficit, Finn Church Aid (FCA) is launching change negotiations that may result in staff reductions in the Helsinki office. The estimated need for reduction is up to nine full-time equivalent.
Finn Church Aid is Finland’s largest international aid organisation, working with development cooperation and humanitarian operations in the world’s most fragile countries.
Since 2013, funding for the organisation’s programming has increased from around €31 million to almost €80 million. Since 2018, the number of beneficiaries has quadrupled – last year, FCA’s programming reached nearly 1.4 million people.
Most of the growth has come from international fundraising, which is directed towards programme activities. However, the funding of programme support functions has not increased proportionally, leading to a structural financial deficit.
To address the structural financial deficit, FCA is starting change negotiations that aim to find ways to improve efficiency and ensure impact of its work.
“We are in a situation where we have to seriously consider what kind of organisation we need to be to ensure the effectiveness of our work and continue to support the growing number of vulnerable people. We will do everything we can to ensure that our programme work is not compromised and that the impact on staff is minimised,” says Tomi Järvinen, FCA’s Executive Director.
