FCA helps earthquake victims in Myanmar – damage feared to be huge

Finn Church Aid is launching an emergency relief operation to help earthquake victims in Myanmar. The work has been allocated 50,000 euros from FCA’s disaster fund.
The earthquake struck on Friday, March 28, in the afternoon local time. The main quake had a magnitude of 7.7 with the epicentre near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city. The extent of the damage is still being determined, but feared to be grave. Damage is also significant in the Thai capital, Bangkok.
FCA has been operating in Myanmar since 2014 with mainly humanitarian assistance and support for education.
The disaster comes at a time when the United States has significantly cut funding for humanitarian aid to Myanmar.
“Fortunately, our personnel are safe, but we are deeply concerned about the consequences of the earthquake in the already difficult humanitarian situation in Myanmar. We are closely monitoring the development of the situation and are ready to help as needed,” says Tomi Järvinen, FCA Executive Director.
FCA is raising funds to help earthquake victims in Myanmar and is preparing to launch an emergency relief operation.
