The project seeks to build institutional capacity of the Asmara Community College of Education (ACCE) to deliver quality teacher education through the new Alternative Teacher Training Programme (ATTP) and the diploma level teacher education programme preparing teachers for primary and middle schools. The activities include diploma curricula revision, pedagogical trainings for faculty, co-teaching supported by FCA staff, elaboration of individual professional development plans, mentorship and faculty exchanges with teacher training institutions in Finland. The focus is on institutionalising professional development activities to improve teaching and research skills at ACCE. Collaborative action research on the ATTP is conducted to improve the programme and to engage key stakeholders in dialogue on quality education.
The project’s duration is 1 October 2016 – 30 September 2017. It is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), which is a department of the Government of the United Kingdom. The total project budget is 102 670 GBP.
